Private glebe of land located in the Amazonas State, with approximate area of one million hectares, totally covered by virgin forest. This area is the result of the unification of 15 glebes.
This is truly the biggest private area in the Amazônia with incontestable ownership. It is known that the big problem in the Amazônia is precisely the ownership, which is in general very precarious. This glebe is registered according to the law and mapped by points of the geographic referential system, observed by satellite.
This extraordinary parcel of land was purchased in 1974 and has been under the owner´s care ever since, demanding a high investment in the place and many experimental activities. In fact, the owner has already promoted several activities, such as the rubber tree crop, variety of fruit plantations, cattle breeding, birds and pigs, turtles and so on, in the area next to the forest reserve.
It was also a base for biological research of the Medicine School of the Universidade de São Paulo, besides a wide program of drilling of PETROBRAS. There is no community of natives in the area. The whole region is plain, with small waves of land and several meadows that are flooded in the rainy seasons as well as creeks originated from the basin of the Juruá , Breu , Riozinho and Ipixuna rivers, that run the mentioned land. There are no mountains or high elevations.
The air photos show hundreds of small points, clearings in the dense woods. These clearings are where the Petrobras made drillings in search for gas and petrol, denominated “seismic caverns “. They are not bigger than 5 or 6 soccer stadium and are in fast restoration process of the vegetation.
A technical research of the area shows that 99.4% of the glebe is covered by native forest, not only the deep forest but the open one as well. Besides the exploration of wood, the area, due to its characteristics and extension, permits various other economic activities. We point out the presence of natural gas, the charcoal production as a byproduct of the wood, the ecotourism, the environmental protection managing, the biological research, the culture preservation of natives, etc.
